The McDonagh fife was developed in New York in the late 1950s by renowned fifer and instructor John McDonagh, and it has been a highly respected and sought out instrument ever since. The profiled bore improves intonation compared to the straight bore of traditional fifes; the additional holes on the 10 hole model allow the performer to skip the half-holing required for some of the chromatic notes on a 6 hole fife. We are honored to have had the late Mr. McDonagh's support in bringing this instrument back to the marketplace. We make our Cooperman McDonagh Model fife in instrument-grade grenadilla only.
